Longer days are ahead, which means summer at the shore will be here before we know it. Extra sunshine is a beautiful thing! And just like we protect our skin from the sun’s harsh rays, we also need to protect our home’s interior.
Think of blinds and shades as your sunscreen, and draperies as your sunglasses… STAY WITH ME HERE.
Blinds and shades filter the UV rays- just like sunscreen- and protect your furniture, rugs, and artwork from sun damage. They also provide the privacy options you need to control how much of the outside you want to see, as well as how much of the inside you allow your neighbors to see. And if you really want your blinds or shades to WORK for you… they can easily be motorized and set to rise and lower at different times of the day.
So, we’ve applied our sunscreen/blinds/shades… now let’s discuss sunglasses… or drapes.
Much like how your favorite pair of sunglasses completes your beach look while protecting your eyes, custom draperies are meant to soften the look of your room while providing insulation, and protection from annoying light seepage. So, hang them high and hang them wide for best results. You’ll want to keep them 1/4”- 1/2” off your floor for a casual, yet polished look.
If you need expert advice on how to pull your custom window treatments together, you can consider me your home’s dermatologist/stylist… That may be a reach, but I do know A LOT about window treatments and can help you maximize the sunshine in your home!
