Can a Tray Make Your Home “Pin-Worthy”?

Do you ever find yourself staring at Pinterest wondering how to make your home look like your pins? Well, don’t beat yourself up! Those pins are professionally designed, styled, and photographed. And to get the right look in a photo, furniture and decor are moved to look right in a camera lens but aren’t set up in a way that a person can live in the space.

So, how can you achieve these looks and still live in your home? The answer is something called “vignettes” (put your pinky up when you use this word).

Vignettes are small areas made of several strategically styled objects. You can display a vignette on an end table, a bookcase, dining table, nightstands, a chest of drawers, etc… Basically, you need a flat surface to start.

Now clear the surface completely, wipe down any dust, make it shine.
Next, gather an odd number of decorative objects, let’s start with 3, and a tray. Your decorative pieces should vary in height from small, medium, and large.
Place your tray on your surface and visualize a tic-tac-toe/grid over your tray like this:

Take the tallest piece (1) of décor and place it on the back section on either the left of right, centered on the intersection. Then take the medium piece (2) and place it on the opposite vertical line, centered between the two vertical lines. Lastly, place the smallest piece (3) in the front, centered on the space between pieces 1 &2.

Take a step back and voila! You are a vignette styling pro! And you dusted, so kudos! Leave the rest of the surrounding space empty. Your eyes need some blank space to emphasize your focal point, i.e. your newly self-styled vignette.
Feel free to send me a picture of your new talent or post any questions you may have. Next, we will go over how to create a vignette using books. Stay tuned!
